This article walks through the cause and possible steps to take to resolve the No Data error when uploading Math rosters via Insight Roster Upload.

What Does This Error Mean?

No Data: It looks like you accidentally uploaded a blank file. Find out where and how to add specific student and teacher data, Learn More

If you are seeing the "No Data" error after uploading a teacher or student spreadsheet you may have uploaded the blank template by mistake. This means that the file you uploaded contains the correct column headers but no student or teacher data in the rows below.

There could be two reasons the spreadsheet is blank:

  1. You added student or teacher rostering data to a different, saved spreadsheet.
  2. You added student or teacher rostering data to an earlier version of the same spreadsheet.

Find the different, saved version of the spreadsheet

If you know you added student or teacher data to a spreadsheet and saved the document, that spreadsheet may be saved under a different name in a different location on your device. Follow the directions below to locate and review other recently saved spreadsheets:

Excel (Windows or Mac)

  1. In the Excel spreadsheet you just opened, click File in the top left corner of the toolbar.
  2. The File tab opens showing the option to create a New file or to open a Recent, Pinned, or Shared with Me file. The ten most recently opened spreadsheets are listed.
  3. Scroll through the recent files and open any that could be the completed spreadsheet you are looking for. Click More workbooks if you do not see the file you are looking for.
  4. After you have found your file, confirm it includes the correct data, is saved as a CSV, and then upload this file in the Insight Dashboard.

Restore an earlier version of the same spreadsheet

If you remember adding data to your spreadsheet and saving it, you might have removed the data by mistake and tried to upload an empty spreadsheet. Follow the directions below to restore an earlier version of the same spreadsheet.

Excel (Windows)

  1. Open Excel and then click File in the top left corner of the toolbar. The File tab opens.
  2. Scroll down the left navigation pane and select Info. The Info tab opens.
  3. Click the Version History button.
    • Note: If you have not enabled Version History, a window opens asking you if you want to turn it on. This means there is not an earlier saved version of the file you can revert to.
  4. Select the version you wish to view. It opens in a new window.
  5. When you find the previous version and would like to restore it, click Restore.

Numbers (Mac)

  1. In the Numbers spreadsheet you just opened, click File in the top left corner of the toolbar. The File menu opens.
  2. Select Revert To from the file menu, and then choose Browse All Versions. The window updates to show an image of the current version of your spreadsheet on the left and a stack of images of previous versions on the right.
  3. To view earlier versions, click tick marks along the timeline or click the arrows next to the stack of spreadsheet images on the right, then click an image to view the version full size.
  4. After you have chosen the version you wish to restore you can do one of the following
    • Restore this version: Click Restore below the spreadsheet image. A restored version of the spreadsheet replaces the current version on the right.
    • Save a copy of the version displayed on the right as a new spreadsheet: Hold down the Option key on the keyboard, then click Restore a Copy. Numbers opens the spreadsheet copy in a new window, where you can edit it and save it with a new name. Example name: "Marshall Academy_Students2021"
