This article walks through the cause and possible steps to take to resolve the Educator Email Incorrectly Formatted Error.

What Does This Error Mean?

If you see this error after uploading your spreadsheet, it means that at least one teacher or administrator email address is missing a required element. In the example image above, the educator email in Row 5 of the spreadsheet is missing one of the required elements of an email address.

Identifying the Missing or Incorrect Element

Required Email Address Elements

  1. Username: The first part of an email address that identifies the user. (This is not the same thing as the username that is part of sign in credentials - username and password)
  2. @ Symbol
  3. Domain name: The domain indicates the email system you use. It usually includes a version of your district name.
  4. Domain extension: The domain extension identifies what type of organization you are a part of. Most district domains end with ".edu".

Other Possible Errors

If you skim your spreadsheet and overall all of the email addresses look like they contain all of the required elements, and are structured correctly, the emails triggering this error may have a hard to see typo in the middle or end of the address.

Resolving Email Address Formatting Errors

  • Open the spreadsheet and select the correct column.
    • On an Educator spreadsheet, click the A at the top of column A to highlight the column.
    • On a Student/Classroom spreadsheet, click the L at the top of column L to highlight the column.
  • Scroll down until you reach the first row that includes an invalid educator email address.
  • Identify the element Update the email address, consulting your scheduling system or class rosters as necessary.
  • Follow the same process to address any rows that also show an invalid email address.
  • If there are no other errors or warnings in your file, save the file as a CSV and upload the file again.
