Would you like to create assignments in-line with the Quantile framework? This article provides an overview of how NWEA and assignments work together, how to create an assignment aligned with NWEA scores, and frequently asked questions (FAQs).
Quantile Assignment Basics
The DreamBox Math Assignments tool empowers teachers to personalize DreamBox Math lessons for every learner based on what’s happening in their classroom. Using the Quantile® Framework for Mathematics data, educators can create Math assignments that automatically deliver differentiated lessons to individual students or groups of students based on their individual readiness.
After a teacher creates an assignment using the Quantile® Framework for Mathematics data, DreamBox Math presents lessons aligned to the Quantile® measure, taking into account the content in which a student has already shown proficiency. DreamBox Math will deliver a differentiated assignment for up to 10 weeks to each student based on their level of readiness, meaning each student will have a unique and personalized learning experience. If the student finishes the content before 10 weeks, the assignment will end.
Note: After enabling the Quantile® Framework for Mathematics assessment option, the student data will need to be manually entered to create an assignment. |
Create An Assignment Aligned to the Quantile Framework
- From the Home page, click Add Assignment in the top-right corner.
- In the Top Navigation Pane, click Quantile® Framework.
- In the window that opens, select a Quantile® measure for each student for whom you’d like to create an assignment.
- Click Add Assignment in the bottom-left corner of the page. The Long-Term Assignment will be automatically created and appear in the Assignment History Report.
The students will be able to identify their lessons by the special blue icon that appears next to the assigned lesson. Primary students may need to pick up a backpack for the assigned lesson to appear or a student may need to complete an existing lesson before the new lesson will appear on their Lesson Chooser.
FAQs
Q: What student Quantile® measure does DreamBox recommend selecting for an Assignments assignment? |
A: Since students learn and grow over time, it is best practice to create an assignment that uses Quantile® measure assessment results as soon as possible after receiving the students’ measures. Based on the most recent assessment data, DreamBox recommends creating a Math assignment using students’ most recent measures.
Q: If my interim assessment is NWEA, should I make an assignment using my student's NWEA MAP Growth RIT score or Quantile® measure? |
A: Since NWEA MAP Growth RIT scores are by domain, creating an assignment based on a student's NWEA RIT score offers additional granularity over creating an assignment based on a student's Quantile® measure.
Q: Does this new capability affect DreamBox’s coherent learning pathways? |
A: DreamBox Math maintains our coherent, rigorous learning pathways through the alignment of the Quantile® measure so that students still receive content that they are ready to learn while adhering to the proven sequence of the DreamBox Math curriculum.
Q: Can districts or schools automatically import students’ Quantile measure into DreamBox? |
A: No, it is not possible to import Quantile® measures into DreamBox Math. We believe it is important for teachers to stay connected to data on their students so that they can make the best decisions to support their growth.
Q: Are you planning to partner with other summative assessment or testing companies? |
A: As always, we will consider your input and customer feedback regarding adding alignments to additional interim assessments. As that feedback is received, we will evaluate and prioritize adding additional print programs against other priorities.
Q: Once I've created a Quantile® measure assignment, can I go back and edit it? |
A: No, not at this time. However, you can 'cancel' the assignment created for single or multiple students at any time and make a new one that better fits your criteria. Student progress made through the assignment will not be lost if the assignment is canceled, but the student will no longer see the assigned lessons on their Lesson Chooser and it will no longer appear in the Assignment History.
Q: Does DreamBox cancel an assignment if a student struggles with the lessons? |
A: Yes. If the student does not make sufficient progress we may cancel the assignment as we believe the student might not be understanding what is being asked, or the content is too difficult for them. When that happens, we inform the educator of the cancellation by displaying a message in the assignment progress section of the Assignments History Report.
We recommend using the Activity Feed report to walk through the concept with the student, or creating a new assignment that touches on skills that can help the student with the canceled assignment.
