Administrator Access to Teacher Settings
This article describes how to remove a student from a classroom from the Roster tab inside the Teacher Settings section. If you are a school or district-level DreamBox Math administrator, click here to learn how to open teacher Settings.
What Is The Difference Between Adding or Creating a Student?
There are two ways you can add a student to your classroom roster. You can add a student who already exists in the DreamBox Math system, or you can create a new student in your roster.
Add Existing Student | Create New Student | ||||
Adding an Existing student means moving a student that already exists in DreamBox Math into the classroom.
|
Creating a New student means creating a student account for a student who does not exist in DreamBox Math.
|
Important: Most students are loaded into DreamBox Math by your site or district IT team. If a student already exists in DreamBox Math, creating a new version of the student will create a duplicate account, and if the student plays using both accounts, the progress from each account cannot be merged. Please check with your IT team or DreamBox administrator before creating a new student. |
Add an Existing Student To a Classroom
If your district or school manages your rosters, we recommend you reach out to your school or district IT team and/or DreamBox Math administrator to confirm the student has been already been shared with DreamBox Math. |
After you confirm the student has been shared and created in DreamBox Math:
- Click the Settings icon, select the Roster tab, and select a classroom (if needed).
- Click the Select Action drop-down list and select Add existing student.
- Click the Select School drop-down and select either:
- Unassigned students: The student has been added to DreamBox Math but is not associated with the schools you are associated with.
- School Name: The student has been added to DreamBox Math and is associated with the schools in the list.
- Start typing the student's name in the Select Student field. The student list updates, narrowing the list. When you see the correct student name, you can select it.
- Click the Add to Roster button. The student will appear on the roster below, but this addition to the roster has not yet been confirmed and saved.
- You have multiple options based on what you want to do next.
- To add another existing student, click the Select Student drop-down list and choose the next student you wish to add.
- To remove one of the existing students you just added, you can click the trash can icon in that student's row.
- Save your changes to the roster (See Step 6 below).
Note: If you see an error message and need help addressing it, jump to this article's Potential Errors and Possible Solutions section. |
- Click the Update button to save the changes to this classroom roster.
Create a New Student
Important: Before you create a new student, contact your district or school IT team to verify if the student has already been shared with DreamBox Math. If the student has been shared, jump back to the Add an Existing Student instructions. |
Creating a new student is similar to adding an existing student, with a few key differences.
- Follow the directions above to open the Roster tab and select the correct classroom.
- Click the Select Action drop-down list and select Add new Student.
- When the new, blank student row appears at the top of the roster, add the information for the new student. Add the information for the new student in the blank fields.

Required Student Information, Potential Errors, and Possible Solutions
There are a few ways you might see an error when creating a new student or updating an existing one. You can use the chart below to learn more about possible errors that might appear for specific student information fields and how to address them.
Note: If you see an error at the top of the Roster page after clicking Update, it could mean multiple errors or the system identified a mistake while trying to save your changes. Scroll down to the roster and look for the red error messages next to specific student information fields. |
