DreamBox Insight Roster Upload: Streamlining School Addresses

Math Insight Roster Upload should be used only by customers who set up schools or districts in DreamBox Math before 7/28/2025. New customers that want an upload option should use Discovery Education Bulk Import.

This article walks through the cause and possible steps to take to resolve the Multiple School Addresses  error.

What Does This Error Mean?

If you see this error after uploading a Student spreadsheet, it means that the spreadsheet contains at least two different addresses for the same school in the School Address column (Column J). In the example above, rows 3 and 4 on the spreadsheet show different addresses for the same school.

Where Are School Addresses Required On the Spreadsheet?

School address information is only required the first time a new school is listed on the file. It is not required in any additional row as long as the school name in these rows matches the school name in the row containing school address information.

Resolving School Address Errors

The quickest way to address the School Address error is to keep the school information in the first row and remove it from all other rows referencing the same school. If you are uploading student and classroom roster data for more than one school in the same file, keep the address information in rows when an additional school name is listed for the first time.

To remove school address information from multiple rows at once:

  1. In Row 2 on your spreadsheet, validate that the school information in the School City, School Address, and School Zip columns (Columns H-K) is correct. If it is not correct, edit the school information as needed.
  2. In the School City column (Column I) scroll down and click the cell in Row 3 to highlight it. Press Delete to erase all data from the cell
  3. Click the now empty cell to select it, and then press and hold the Shift key.
  4. Press and hold the Down Arrow key on the keyboard to extend the cell highlight from the initial cell down to either the last row containing data (if the file contains data for only one school) or to just above the row when the additional school name is listed.
  5. Release the Shift key and press CTRL+D (if using a PC), or +D (if using a Mac),  and then release. The data in the highlighted cells will be deleted.
  6. Repeat this process in the School Address and School Zip columns.
  7. If necessary, repeat the entire process for any additional schools on the spreadsheet.
If you would prefer to update each address in your file instead of removing the additional addresses, use the links below to jump to the most relevant directions:

Only a few individual rows in the spreadsheet show School Address errors

If only one or two separate rows in the spreadsheet have triggered an error this is usually due to something that can be quickly addressed, like a single typo or one blank cell.

To find and edit these addresses:

  1. Open the spreadsheet and click the J at the top of Column J to highlight the column.
  2. Scroll down until you reach the first row identified as having a different school address.
  3. Review and edit the address in that cell.
  4. Follow the same process to address any rows that are also showing different school addresses.
  5. If there are no additional items to update on your spreadsheet, save the file as a CSV and upload it again.

Multiple consecutive rows in the spreadsheet show School Address errors

If this error is highlighted in consecutive rows of the spreadsheet it usually indicates that one of two things have happened:

  1. In Excel, when you highlight a cell that contains both text and numbers, and then press, hold, and drag the content down the column any numbers in the original cell will increase by one digit in each selected cell.
  2. In Numbers, you can copy content to additional cells in the same column, but if there is a typo in the original cell content this will be copied to all selected cells.

To quickly edit addresses in consecutive rows:

Excel (PC or Mac)

  1. Open your spreadsheet and click the J at the top of Column J to highlight the column.
  2. Scroll down until you reach the first row identified as showing a different school address.
  3. Check the school address in the cell directly above this row. It should be correct.
  4. Click the cell that contains the correct school address to select it, and then press and hold the Shift key.
  5. To copy the information from the cell with the correct address, press and hold the Down Arrow key on the keyboard to extend the cell highlight from the initial cell down to the number of cells matching the school. Release the Shift key, press CTRL+D (if using a PC) or +D (if using a Mac), and release.
  6. If there are no additional items to update on your spreadsheet, save the file as a CSV and upload it again.

Numbers

  1. Open your spreadsheet and click the J at the top of Column J to highlight the column.
  2. Scroll down until you reach the first row identified as showing a different school address.
  3. Check the school address in the cell directly above this row. It should be correct.
  4. Click the cell that contains the correct school address to select it, and then choose Edit Copy from the Edit menu at the top of your screen.
  5. Select where you want to paste the data, and then choose Edit Paste.
  6. If there are no additional items to update on your spreadsheet, save the file as a CSV and upload it again.
