Lesson Highlights provides teachers the ability to watch a video of students' progress through a lesson from their dashboard. Each highlight video captures the clicks a student makes and how DreamBox Math responds inside the lesson. This helps teachers:
| Recognize mistakes students may be making. | |
| Identify ways to support students’ thinking. | |
| Discover student learning to celebrate. |

Exploring a Lesson Highlight Video
Understanding the Video Layout
Each video will default to show the very beginning of the lesson in the Student View and expand Problem 1 in the Navigation Pane.

Playing and Navigating the Video
Lesson highlight videos will be shorter than the time it took the student to complete a lesson, but will show the choices students make while playing a lesson. Rather than show every click a student makes, our goal is to show how the student is thinking through the problem by focusing on student movements during the task and the answers they provide.
There are multiple ways to select which portion of the video you want to see first, move forward or backward in the lesson, and control how quickly or slowly the video plays.

Choosing Which Highlights to View
Choosing which video highlight to watch may seem overwhelming at first. Many students may complete multiple lessons each week and have multiple highlight videos for the same lesson.
We’ve identified a few ways to approach Lesson Highlights to help narrow down the videos you want to review each week.
| Focus on specific Lesson Icons | Use the lesson icons in the Student Usage table to identify and watch highlight videos of lessons identified as Completed Without Understanding or May Need Attention. |
| Focus on selected students | You may be tracking the growth of specific students to document their progress for IEPs, etc. Open these students’ Home pages to explore their highlight videos. |
| Check Alerts and Achievements |
Focus on the students in the May Need Attention section of Alerts and Achievements.

Lesson Highlights FAQs
| Q: How do I make a highlight video larger? |
A: You can make the highlight video larger by following the steps below.
- Closing the highlight video and the Lesson Highlights window (if open).
- Enlarging the browser screen.
- PC: Select and hold the CTRL key and then select the “+” key until you are satisfied with the size.
- Mac: Select and hold the Command key and then select the “+” key until you are satisfied with the size.
- Opening the highlight video you want to view again.
| Q: I can’t close a highlight video because I can’t see the Close button on the highlights window. |
A: Try shrinking your screen using keyboard shortcuts:
- PC: Select and hold the CTRL key and then select the “–” key until you can see the Close button.
- Mac: Select and hold the Command key, then select the “–” key until you see the Close button.
| Q: What happens if a student pauses a lesson and comes back? What does the Lesson Highlight video show? |
A: If a student pauses a lesson multiple times before finishing it, you will see one highlight video that compiles multiple days' activity into one view. The different days will be split into sections on the Navigation Pane so you can see the progression of students' play no matter how many attempts it takes them.
| Q: Why isn’t a Lesson Highlight available for a lesson I know the student played? |
A: There are two reasons why you may not see a Lesson Highlight video for a completed lesson:
- The lesson was just completed, and the highlight video has yet to appear on your dashboard. Refresh your screen and it should appear.
- The student completed the lesson over 30 days ago. Lesson Highlights are only available for 30 days.
| Q: Can I send some of these videos to my students’ parents? |
A: We are excited that you find highlight videos valuable enough to share with parents. Currently, the educator dashboard does not support downloading and sharing these videos.
