If your entire school or several schools in your district will be using DreamBox products, we recommend choosing one of our three automated options to manage your rosters:
- Clever Automated Roster Management
- ClassLink Automated Roster Management
- DreamBox Automated Roster Management
This article focuses on how to set up classroom rosters via ClassLink.
What is ClassLink?
ClassLink is an IMS Global-certified single sign-on solution. ClassLink offers device-agnostic single sign-on (SSO) solutions for school districts, which give students a dashboard to access all synced applications and gives district IT the ability to easily share and sync their SIS data with application providers.
How does ClassLink facilitate rostering with DreamBox?
ClassLink Roster Server integrates with a district’s roster data, enabling them to share securely with other learning providers using open data standards. DreamBox integrates with ClassLink via SFTP data export. Your district can share rosters with DreamBox using OneRoster format. OneRoster is a part of the Learning Information Services standard for how districts share roster information. OneRoster includes a way to format files that are exchanged between a district and application providers that use CSVs to share user information.
Is rostering via ClassLink a good fit for my district?
If your district has already implemented or is planning to implement ClassLink, rostering via ClassLink and ClassLink SSO is a good fit. If your district would like to roster via ClassLink you will need to share all educators, students, and classrooms that need access to DreamBox via ClassLink. Please note that ClassLink cannot be combined with another method of rostering.
ClassLink Rostering Basics
If you are ready to get started with ClassLink, please coordinate with your district IT team to complete the steps below:
Before you begin:
|
Step 1: Reach out to DreamBox Customer Support to confirm you would like to set up and update rosters using ClassLink. You can connect with the Support team via phone, chat, or webform.
Step 2: Set up the SFTP data export inside your ClassLink Roster Server using the SFTP credentials DreamBox Support shares with you.

Step 3: After you have set up your SFTP data export, adjust your sharing permissions to ensure you are sharing only the schools, classrooms, administrators, teachers, and students that should be active in DreamBox.

Step 4: Send your first files to DreamBox.

The Customer Support team will review your data and reach out to you if we have any questions prior to pulling the data into DreamBox for the first time. After Customer Support finished processing your roster files we will reach out to let you know your rosters are ready to review in DreamBox. Please notify all IT and curriculum stakeholders to review the rosters and make sure everything is ready for teachers and students.
If your rosters need no additional adjustments and you are not using ClassLink Single Sign-On, a member of the Customer Support team will email all teachers and administrators an invitation to log in and view their DreamBox accounts. You will receive an email from our team when this process is complete.
Please plan for this entire process to take up to 2 business days. If you have any questions, please contact DreamBox Customer Support.
Can ClassLink automated updates be rejected by DreamBox?
If a member of Client Support reviews the updates and there are significant changes that should require approval from the district before we proceed, we will reject the updates. Any questionable data changes must be verified with District IT prior to approval. We will not process any changes until approval has been given by IT. This may cause a delay in seeing updated information on the Dashboard.
