This article focuses on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about when DreamBox Math updates or adds new academic standards and how this might affect reports in the educator dashboard.
Q: How often does DreamBox Math update its standards alignments?
A: DreamBox Math makes updates between our lessons and your state standards on an as-needed basis to improve accuracy and better reflect curriculum standards.
Q: How does the DreamBox Math team determine which lessons align to which standards?
A: If educators notice an alignment error, they report the misalignment between the DreamBox Math curriculum and their state standards to us. DreamBox’s internal team of math instructional designers reviews each report to make decisions about which alignments need to be updated. We also perform internal reviews and analysis of our curriculum on an ongoing basis.
Q: Will I be notified when standards alignments are updated?
A: When we make standards alignment changes, the DreamBox Math team posts an announcement on the DreamBox Math educator dashboard. We make every effort to make any large-scale alignment during the summer months to minimize the impact, but occasionally, we find issues that require standards alignment shifts during the school year.
Q: Why did my students' proficiency scores change even though they haven’t completed new lessons?
A: When DreamBox Math updates our curriculum or alignments to your state standards, it can cause proficiency scores to shift. Adding new lessons to a standard increases the total set of lessons required for mastery, which lowers the student’s measured proficiency. Removing lessons has the opposite effect. In both cases, the new proficiency number after the alignment should be considered the more accurate value.
Q: Do alignment changes affect historical data or reports?
A: When new alignments are released, DreamBox Math recomputes the Progress Report for all the previous months of the current school year to ensure that the reports remain accurate.

Q: How do alignment changes impact goal-setting and progress monitoring?
A: When we release an alignment update, educators may need to adjust goals or expectations. The updated proficiency numbers should be considered the most accurate, and goals should focus on building the new proficiency scores to 100%.
Q: Teachers: Will I be able to review individual student proficiency aligned to my state academic standards as soon as they are available in DreamBox Math?
A: Yes. Student progress in your state standard is available as soon as the standards alignment is added or updated. You'll want to check which academic standards you're viewing first to see standards progress aligned to your state, CCSS, or DreamBox Learning Units.
Q: Administrators: Will I be able to review individual student proficiency aligned to my state academic standards as soon as they are available in DreamBox Math?
A: No. Progress and proficiency are only available for the timeframe in which your state academic standard is available. Since your academic standard wasn't available at the start of the school year, we weren't able to calculate progress and standards proficiency at that time. We started calculating this data as soon as we added your state, so you’ll see partial progress for the school year. If you want to see progress or standards proficiency for the entire school year, switch to DreamBox Learning Units in the drop-down list.
Q: How do I figure out if I'm seeing a recently added state standard in my educator dashboard?
A: You can see which academic standard is selected on your educator dashboard by checking the Home or Reports page. If you want to adjust the selected academic standards, you can do so from either page, or from your Settings tabs.
