Assessment Holds: Overview
Why does the program put some students On Hold during the InSight assessment?
The collection of valid and accurate data during an assessment is important for correct student placement and reliable progress monitoring in Reading Plus. If the program detects that a student is disengaged or off-task during an assessment, they are automatically placed On Hold until an educator can intervene.
What causes a student to be placed On Hold while working on the InSight assessment?
A student is placed on a temporary Hold either immediately or after two warning messages, based on the detected student behavior:
Immediate HoldExcessive Off-Task Behavior |
Two Warnings, then HoldIntermittant Off-Task Behavior |
|
|
What do students see when they are warned or put On Hold during the InSight assessment?
Depending on student behavior, students may see two warning messages before the On Hold notification, or see just the On Hold notification.
Warnings
(Intermittant off-task behavor)
|
First Warning If intermittant off-task behavior is detected, the student will recieve a warning. |
|
Second Warning If the pattern of off-task behavior continues, the student will receive a second warning.
|
On Hold Notification
(Continued pattern of off-task behavior, or the student met the criteria for an immediate hold.)
|
On Hold Notification The third time intermittant off-task behavior is detected, if the student is moving too quickly or slowly through the assessment, or if the student's previous assessment results indicate the student is scoring too low, the student will be placed On Hold.

Assessment Holds: FAQs
| Q: Can a student be placed On Hold multiple times while completing the InSight assessment? |
A: Yes, but they will still be able to complete the assessment. After a student has been placed On Hold multiple times, the program will temporarily pause Holds so the student can focus on finishing the assessment. In this case, we recommend carefully reviewing the student's assessment results on the Student Assessment Report.

| Q: Why did the program recommend a student restart from the beginning of the current module? |
A: If a student has been placed On Hold two or more times, we recommend the student restart from the beginning of the current module because if they continue from where they left off, the results may not be a valid reflection of the student's ability. Also, if this is an Initial assessment, this will likely result in improper placement in the instructional componets.
| Q: Where can a teacher see a record of when a student was put On Hold, or how many times they have been placed On Hold? |
A: teachers can see Holds history in three places in the educator dashboard:
- A record of the InSight Holds and responses is saved in Alerts History.
- A visual representation of the Hold is also displayed on the Real-Time Activity dashboard, located in the Usage section for a class.

- A record of released InSight Holds is also available in the Alerts History section of the Student Overview page.
