FAQs: Student Results Screen

Q: Why do students sometimes see only G-Rate, only I-Rate, or both rates on the Student Results screen?

A: The student's reading rate for the lesson is reported in words per minute (wpm) as either G-Rate (guided rate) or I-Rate (independent rate), or both. This depends on how the student read the selection in the lesson. The Results Screen shows:

  • G-Rate if the student read the selection entirely in the Guided Window.
  • I-Rate if the student read the selection entirely in independent mode.
  • Both G-Rate and I-Rate are presented if the student chose to read the selection partly in the Guided Window and partly in the independent mode.

Q: When are students required to increase the speed of the Guided Window?

A: Students reading below their grade-level rate are required to increase the speed of the Guided Window when they consistently demonstrate comprehension scores of 80% or higher on lessons. After students reach their grade-level rate they will not need to increase the Guided Window speed.

Q: What does a Combo mean and how do students earn them?

A: Students earn a Combo by completing two lessons in a row with comprehension at or above 80%. After students earn the individually prescribed number of Combos at their current level, they will Level Up and unlock content in the next higher level.
