DreamBox Math Teacher-Student Messaging: FAQs

Teacher Experience

Q: Can I send notes to a specific group of students?

A: Not at this time. To send a note to a specific group of students you need to select the message icon for each student individually.

 

Q: I teach with another teacher, can both of us send messages to the same student?

A: Yes. Your student will see your name next to the messages you send.

 

Q: Can I see notes that another teacher has sent my student?

A: Yes. The teacher’s name will appear above the messages they have sent.

 

Q: Who else can see the notes I send students?

A: Any educator who is attached to a classroom can see notes sent to or from the students in the classroom. If a student is enrolled in multiple classrooms, any educator attached to at least one of those classrooms can see all messages sent or to from that student, even if they were sent to or by an educator attached to a different classroom.

 

Q: Can I delete a message I sent by accident?

A: No.

 

Q: How long can a teacher see messages sent to or from a student?

A: Any messages sent to or from a student can be seen by any teachers whose classroom the student appears in for 90 days.

 

Q: Are there emojis for teachers to use?

A: Not at this time.

 

Q: What can I share with parents who ask about messaging security?

A: Teachers can securely write or choose from pre-written messages to students in the DreamBox Math student environment. Students cannot write an original message, but they can share one of the following messages to their teacher's educator dashboard along with a screenshot:

  • I've got this and am ready for something new!
  • I'm feeling pretty good about this. It's coming together. I still want to practice a little more.
  • I need more time to be successful at this.
  • I need a break to be successful at this. I’ll put it aside, do something else, and come back to it.
  • I need to work with a friend to be successful at this.
  • I need help from the teacher to be successful at this.

 

Q: Can I turn Student-Teacher messaging off for selected students in a classroom, an entire classroom, an entire school, etc?

A: Not at this time. 

 

Q: Can teachers download and/or print a list of messages from students?

A: Not at this time. 

 

Q: Can I see the feedback students send to DreamBox Math?

A: No. Teachers cannot see feedback students send to DreamBox Math.

 

Q: Can Administrators send messages to students?

A: Not at this time.

 

Student Experience

Q: Can students change the icon they’ve responded to my message with later?

A: Yes. Click here to open directions. 

 

Q: How do parents read messages?

A: Parents cannot read messages between their students and teachers at this time.

 

Q: Are students able to message each other?

A: No.

 

Q: Can a student send a “spam” message back to their teacher?

A: No. The student has a limited set of message choices that they can send to their teacher. Click here to  learn more. 

 

Q: How many messages can a student send to the teacher?

A: Students can send up to 25 messages per day.

 

Family Experience

Q: Can I see the messages my student sends their teacher?

A: Not at this time.

 

Q: Can I send a message to or receive one from my child?

A: Not at this time. 

 

Q: Could anyone other than the teacher see the messages sent to or from my child, or contact them through DreamBox Math?

A: All communications between students and teachers, like all elements of DreamBox Math, are secured by HTTPS encryption and are not vulnerable to interception by third parties. All messages are stored for 90 days.
