Students can send emojis or pre-created messages from the student learning environment to their DreamBox Math teacher. They can also see and respond to messages their teacher sends them. This helps students:
Confirm they got a message or completed an assignment.
Tell their teacher they need support on a lesson or concept.
Celebrate when they understand a new concept. |
Students can see these messages and reply with one of several emojis or select a pre-created message to send back.

Student Messaging Basics & FAQs
Can students write to each other?
No. Students can only receive and respond to messages from their teachers. They cannot write to each other.
Can students get messages in English or Spanish?
Sometimes. If the student's teacher sent a pre-created message and the student's DreamBox Math language is set to Spanish, they will see the Spanish version of the pre-created message.
If the teacher writes an original message, the student will see the message in the language the teacher uses.
What supports are in place to help emerging readers read and respond to teacher messages?
We support emerging readers and writers in several ways:
- Pre-created messages are short and designed to be accessible by readers of different levels.
- Students can also click on the speaker icon to have the teacher's message or a possible response read to them. If the text of the message or possible response is in Spanish, it will be read in Spanish.
- Students can react to a message using an emoji rather than selecting a response.

Can students send their teacher a message without receiving one first?
Yes. Students do not need to wait to receive a message from their teacher before they send a message. They can select and send a message at any time.

How Students Send and Respond to Messages
Students can respond to messages in one of two ways:
- React to a message by choosing an emoji that reflects their feelings about the teacher's message.
- Respond to a message by selecting one of six icons and pre-written messages to send back to their teacher.
Sending an emoji reaction:
Students can choose between the following emojis:
Heart | Thumbs-Up | Happy Face | Blank Face | Thumbs-Down |
To react to a message:
- Click the blue smiley face icon.
- Select the emoji that best represents their response.
- The emoji will replace the blue smiley face icon next to the message. When students are comfortable with the reaction they chose, they click Send.
Students can change the emoji they sent by clicking it and then selecting a different emoji. The new emoji will replace the previous one next to the message.
Teachers will see a red dot near the message button after the student has reacted to a message. |
