Student Usage Report Basics
Which students are included in the Student Usage report?
The report shows usage data for all students who have signed in during the selected time frame, and also includes the number of students who have active student accounts in DreamBox Math (rostered students).
How often is the Student Usage report updated?
The Student Usage report is updated overnight and is available year-round.
However, there are a few exceptions that could impact student usage data for new DreamBox Math implementations:
- It is the very first day of your implementation: The report will not update until the next day.
- Non-Launchpad district (Not first day): Students who have not logged in or have not started to play or complete lessons may not show usage data.
- Launchpad-enabled district (Not first day): Students who have not completed the Launchpad or are actively working through Launchpad assessment tasks will not show usage data until they complete Launchpad and start playing lessons.

Usage Stats by Student
In the Usage Stats by Student section, teachers can view and compare usage data for each student during the selected time period, including if a student made a sincere attempt to complete a lesson and/or demonstrated understanding (Quality Lessons column).

Roll over the question mark at the top of each column to see the definition of the student usage data in that column. |
What does each stat measure?
|
Avg Time |
The average number of minutes per week the student completed in DreamBox Math during the selected timeframe. |
| Total Time | The total number of minutes the student completed in DreamBox Math during the selected timeframe. |
|
Avg Lessons |
The average number of lessons per week the student completed in DreamBox Math during the selected time period. |
| Total Lessons | The total number of lessons the student completed in DreamBox math during the selected timeframe. |
| Quality Lessons | The total number of lessons a student completed that reflect a genunine learning attempt. If a student completed a lesson in under five minutes without clear evidence of meaningful effort the lesson isn't counted as a quality lesson. |
|
Logging In |
If the student logged in to DreamBox Math during the selected time frame. |
How can I use the information in the Quality Lessons column?
Teachers can compare the number of completed lessons with the number of quality lessons to identify which students may be rushing through lessons.
Teachers could then:
- View Lesson Highlights (for Advanced package districts) to get further
information on student engagement within a lesson. - Use this information to guide class observation when stuents are playing DreamBox Math.
- Prepare for teacher-student conversations and support sessions.
- Assign credit for lessons completed within DreamBox Math.
Weekly Breakdown
In each week in the Weekly Breakdown section, teachers can see a day-by-day breakdown of how much time each student in a classroom spent on DreamBox Math, and the total lessons completed.
What do the colors mean in the Lessons column?
Teachers will see a variety of color combinations depending on how many lessons the student has completed (see the examples below).
| = | 4 lessons completed, weekly goal not quite met | = | 5 lessons completed, weekly goal met | ||
| = | 8 lessons completed, weekly goal met, close to completing 10 lessons | = | 10 lessons completed, weekly goal met | ||
| = | 13 lessons completed, weekly goal met, close to completing 15 lessons | = | 15 lessons completed, weekly goal met |
When a student completes more than 15 lessons during a week, the colors around the lesson counter will repeat the cycle:
- Green: 15-20 completed lessons
- Purple: 20-25 completed lessons
- Gold: 20-25 completed lessons

Student Usage Report FAQs
| Q: Is there a way to see how many lessons students completed with proficiency? |
A: We recommend comparing students' total completed lessons with the amount of total quality lessons in the classroom level of the Student Usage report. While the parameters of a quality lesson do not require a student to demonstrate understanding, seeing the number of quality lessons students complete helps teachers identify which students are likely engaging with concepts as they play, even if they may not be demonstrating understanding.
| Click here to learn more about quality lessons and see suggestions for how teachers could use this report information. |
| Q: How can administrators look at teacher and classroom-level usage? |
A: The new Reports Page includes filtering capabilities to allow Administrators to view the same reports their teachers are seeing. Administrators visiting the Reports Page, depending on permissions, will see a “School”, “Teacher”, “Classroom” and “Student” drop-down which enables filtering directly to the reports desired.
| Q: Why can't I filter the report for custom groups I created? |
A: To see custom groups in the Usage report, select Groups from the Reports page before you open the report. If you don't do this before opening the Usage report, you will not be able to see or move between your custom groups.
| Click here to open directions to set Group filters and see additional FAQs. |
| Q: What can I learn from the Distribution by Grade Table in the district, school, and teacher levels of the report? |
A: The Distribution by Grade table is a quick way to see a grade-level breakdown of how many rostered students have logged in at least once during the selected time frame.
| Q: Will I be able to use the Student Usage Report all year? |
A: Yes. The Student Usage Report updates daily, throughout the entire year.
| Q: How can I see student usage in the Weekly Breakdown chart by month? |
A: To do see the breakdown of student usage by classroom in the Weekly Breakdown tab, update the date range to the first and last day of the month you wish to view. As long as the data is available, the report will update immediately.
| Q: On the classroom-level usage report, why does the Usage Stats table show a student completed more lessons than the Weekly Breakdown table? |
A: The Usage Stats table shows how many lessons a student completed during the selected timeframe at the top of the report. The Weekly Breakdown table shows how many lessons a student completed during the selected week within the selected timeframe.
| Q: What does a greyed-out “n/a” mean in the Weekly Breakdown table? |
A: The indicator “n/a” reflects data that will appear on the report but has not yet. For example, if it is Wednesday, data will not have populated for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. These days will have “n/a” and will be shaded a lighter grey to distinguish them from days where we currently have data.
| Q: Why does the data stop in the middle of the week in the Weekly Breakdown table? |
A: If data is not complete for the week even after all days have passed, it could be because the week splits across two school years. The weekly breakdown chart respects the school year, meaning that if the previous school year ends on a Tuesday, data for this year will start on Wednesday. Please reach out to your DreamBox representative to make sure the school start and stop dates in our system are correct.
