This article summarizes frequently asked questions (FAQS) about the Not Ready indicator teachers see on these reports.
Not Ready Indicator: Overview
When students start working in Reading Plus at the beginning of a school new year, they complete the initial InSight assessment. This data allows Reading Plus to craft a personalied instructional path for each student. The Class Screening Report presents initial assessment results for all students in a class or Group. The Class Placement & Schedule Report shows how those results transition into a personalized learning path for each student.
Not Ready Indicator: FAQs
Q: Why were some of my students flagged as "Not Ready" for Reading (SeeReader)?
A: A student is flagged with a red diamond as Not Ready for the Reading component (SeeReader) in Reading Plus if they did not demonstrate both mastery of first-grade academic vocabulary words and the ability to read comprehension passages at the first-grade level.
Q: Is Reading Plus appropriate for a student identified as Not Ready?
A: Usually yes. The student is simply not yet ready for the Reading component (SeeReader). Reading Plus will automatically assign only the Vocabulary and Visual Skills components to a student flagged as Not Ready for the Reading component. If you choose to have a Not Ready student try working in the Reading component they will read stories and articles on a Level Pre-A (lower first-grade level).
If you are working with English Language Learners or other emergent readers who are learning basic decoding skills, they may not yet be ready for the Vocabulary component in Reading Plus. These students can benefit from the Visual Skills component.
Q: What should I do if I know a student can read at the first-grade level but they were flagged as Not Ready?
A: If you believe your student did not effectively demonstrate their abilities during the initial InSight assessment, you have two options:
- Have the student re-take the initial InSight assessment. If the student has already completed work on any instructional components, this work will be lost.

- Assign the student to the Reading component.

Q: Can I start students flagged as Not Ready on the Reading component later in the year?
A: Yes! If you have confirmed your student cannot yet read text at the first-grade level, we advise you assign the Reading component after the student has completed Level A (first-grade level) in the Vocabulary component. We recommend you start with 1-2 Reading lessons per week and increase Reading assignments gradually until the student is able to complete 6 Reading assignments per week.
