DreamBox Math Educator Dashboard: Edit Student Details

As a teacher, school-level administrator, or district-level administrator in DreamBox Math, you may be able to edit student details from inside the teacher Settings section of your DreamBox Math educator dashboard or the DE Classroom Manager, like:

  • Language (choose English or Spanish)
  • Initial Placement (only before initial sign-in)
  • Direct Login username
  • Direct Login text password
  • Direct Login picture password
  • First name
  • Last name
  • Enable or disable Screen Reader
  • Grade 
  • Gender Identity

Before You Begin: How Do You Open DreamBox Settings?

Educators follow different steps to edit students based on how their DreamBox Math educator dashboard is configured. The quickest way to determine which directions to follow is to sign into your educator dashboard and check the top navigation pane to see how you open teacher Settings. 

In the table below, find the image that matches your dashboard and click the link to jump to the correct instructions.

Settings Tab

Educators edit student information and program settings by clicking the Settings icon in their DreamBox Math educator dashboard.

Drop-Down Menu

 

Educators edit student information and program settings in two places:

  • Roster Management: Edit student first and last name, grade level, and direct login username and password. 
  • DreamBox Settings: Update program settings for students like initial placement and language.

Before you begin

Check Your Permissions Are You An Administrator?

Your DreamBox Math role and dashboard access permissions affect whether you can edit or view a classroom roster.

DreamBox Math administrators see a different set of Settings tabs than teachers. Administrators can see a teacher's Settings tabs, but they need to follow different instructions.

Which Student Details Can I Edit in DreamBox Settings?

Student Detail Notes
Student first and last name

This will not change their name in other classrooms.

If your district set up DreamBox Math rosters using Clever or ClassLink, your changes to student name will stay in place regardless of the student name shared during roster updates. 

 

Grade level in your classroom

 

This does not affect their placement in the DreamBox Math curriculum. 
Initial Placement level

Initial placement can only be updated before a student has signed in for the first time.

Gender

 

This is not a required field and will not be visible to students in the system. It can be left blank or choose between Male, Female, or Other.
Math program language

Choose between English or Spanish.

Enable or Disable Screen Reader

 

Screen Reader should be set to Yes for students who use a third-party screen reader like JAWS, NVDA, or Voice Over.
Direct Login usernames*

Math Single Sign-On (SSO) usernames cannot be edited in the dashboard.

*Requires Edit access to the dashboard.

Editing Student Details in the Roster Tab

To open your classroom roster in the Settings tab:

  • Click the Settings icon in the top navigation pane, select the Roster tab, and if needed select a classroom in the Classrooms filter.

To edit student information in the classroom roster:

There are multiple fields you can edit inside your classroom roster. To edit student information:

  • Click the field you want to edit and then either type your changes or select an option from the drop-down list.
  • The updated text will turn green until you click the Update button to save your changes.

If your district rosters through Clever or ClassLink, all updates to student names should be managed through your district IT team. Any changes made to student names in DE Classroom Manager will be replaced by the information in ClassLink and Clever.

This does not affect the student's placement in the DreamBox Math curriculum.

DO NOT change a student's ID after they have signed in and started playing. DreamBox Math tracks student progress based on student IDs. If you need help with student IDs, reach out to our Customer Support Team

Editing Student Information in Roster Management (DE Classroom Manager)

Depending which dashboard you are currently viewing, you will open the DE Classroom Manager in one of two ways:

From the DreamBox Math Educator Dashboard
  • Click your name in the top right corner of the page and then select Roster Management

  • Click the Global Nav icon on your Home page, and then select Classrooms.

  • Open your DreamBox Math educator dashboard, click your name in the upper right corner, and select DreamBox Settings.

Updating Initial Placement

Support Icons_Tip Box_50px.png If a student has already signed in for the first time, you cannot update their placement in the dashboard and need to contact our Customer Support Team for assistance. We would be happy to help you update the student's placement.

 

FAQs

Q: We use Clever to set up and update DreamBox Math rosters. Can teachers manually change a student's grade level for a student in their roster without impacting the Clever update?

A: All updates to student account details like classroom and grade should be managed through your district IT team and Clever.
