DreamBox Math: Getting Students Started (Educators)

Follow the tips in this article to help get your students logged in, placed, and playing DreamBox Math.

Verify Your Classroom Information

The first time you log in to your DreamBox Math educator dashboard, review your classroom roster and settings to make sure they are correct. The links below provide detailed information on each item you should check.

Review your classroom rosters and adjust student details

Review and adjust student placement

A student's placement level determines where that student will start in either the Launchpad Assessment or the DreamBox Math curriculum. We recommend the following:

  • For new-to-DreamBox Math students: Review and adjust students' Initial Placement levels in your dashboard before students log in for the first time.
DB-Icons_20221116_1-Color_Constantly learning_50px.png Note: You can only update initial placement for students who have never logged in to DreamBox Math.
  • For students who have logged in to DreamBox Math at least once: Review their Initial Standing level and progress in the Growth report before they start playing lessons again, or begin the Launchpad Assessment.
    • If you think their current placement should be adjusted, please contact DreamBox Customer Support
    • If they have not been placed (but have logged in), open your classroom roster and check their initial placement and grade level.

Confirm Student Login Method and Details

Before you can prepare student devices, you need to know how your students will log in to DreamBox Math.  Students log in to DreamBox Math one of two ways:

  1. A Single Sign-On portal (SSO) like Clever, ClassLink, or your district site.
  2. Via Direct DreamBox Login either by a website address that is unique to your school (computer, Chrome Book) or a unique school code (iPad).

Check with your DreamBox Math administrator if you are unsure which method your students will use.

  • Click here to learn how students log in using a laptop, Chromebook, or desktop computer.
  • Click here to learn how students log in using an iPad.

Login method: What information do you need?

  • Information needed for Single Sign-On (SSO):
    • The SSO portal URL and district-created username and password they will use.
    • The district SSO student credentials are not visible in DreamBox, but the SSO Family Letter will contain the district SSO portal.
  • Information needed for Direct DreamBox Login:
    • Confirm the unique school URL they will use.
    • If students will use iPads to play you will also need to know the school code.

Finding login information

Teachers can find the URL, school code, and classroom code inside the Roster Management section of their Home Page in the updated Insight dashboard experience.

To open the Home page and view the Roster Management section:

  • Click Home in the Top Navigation Pane.
  • Select the classroom you wish to view in the filters at the top of the page.
  • Scroll down until you see the Roster Management section.

Prepare Your Devices: Computers, Chromebooks & iPads

Desktops, laptops, and Chromebooks

If your students use laptop or desktop computers, make sure your school's login URL or single sign-on portal is saved as a bookmark on all computers the students will use.

iPads

If your students use iPads, make sure the most current version of the DreamBox Math app has been downloaded. If they will sign in via DreamBox make sure the school code has been entered on each iPad. You can find specific instructions on downloading or updating the app here.

Practice Logging In As a Student

Ideally, you will familiarize yourself with the student login process to make sure everything is set up and you are ready to help students and families.

DB-Icons_20221116_1-Color_Constantly learning_50px.png If your students log in via Single Sign-On the district may not have a set of test student credentials for you to fully complete the sign-in process, but you can walk through the steps of the login process before entering student credentials.

If your students log in via Direct DreamBox login, either open the articles linked below or continue to read to learn how to log in as one of your students.

Logging in via DIrect DreamBox Login
If your students will log in via Direct DreamBox Login, you can test the login process using the credentials listed in the Roster Management section of your Home Page.

  • Look up the username and password of at least one student in your dashboard.
DB-Icons_20221116_1-Color_Comprehension_50px.png
  • Click here to open instructions on how to find student DreamBox Math credentials.
  • Open the school login page on the same device your students will use
    • Computer, laptop, or Chromebook: Navigate to the school URL.
    • iPads: Open the DreamBox Math app and enter the school code (if you have not done so already)
DB-Icons_20221116_1-Color_Constantly learning_50px.png The school login page looks identical on a computer and on the iPad app. (Note that Single Sign-On (SSO) or Instant Login users can launch the DreamBox application from their portal without further identification.)
  • If all classrooms in your school are set to text password, you will see the student username and password fields.
  • If any classrooms have picture passwords, you will see a different view. The teacher/parent Email and Password fields will be at the top-right of the page, but students will log in with their 5-digit numeric classroom code if they have a picture password, or with their username and password if they have a text password

Students with a text password will automatically be logged in with their username and password. Students with a picture password will need to select their name and choose their picture password to complete the process.
